Operating System is a mean of understanding among practical programs like word processing, drawing ,sound programs and the materials of the computer.

When operating the computer ,one function of the (BIOS) is to load the processing files on the computer (RAM) . These files load and process the computer and restart it . Some of these files stay in the (RAM) in order to ensure the operating of the system until the case of switching the computer off ,these files of Operating System is in tow parts: 1- THE KERNEL : Which is a group of files which operate and direct all the function which happen inside the computer (which we cannot see) . 2- THE SHELL: Which is the files that are responsible of the monitor .these files show you the things on the screen and the way you can order the computer to do. Shell includes a lot of small programs and information files which are follower of the main shell . this program in(MS-DOS) is a command .com. In the older (Windows Programs 1-3 ), it is (Program Manager or Progman.exe).In the new (Windows 95) ,(Windows 98 ) , (Windows 2000) it is (Explorer or Explorer .exe). The shell can be in two shapes and each one of these shapes is responsible for the way of operating on the monitor by each user . In (MS- DOS) we deal with a written passage with few lines and a black screen .In this case we have to write an order if we want something to happen. This is of course a very hard work for un professionals. With the arrived of the new method , GUI (Interface Graphical User) you can do any thing by a code or a diagram or by clicking on a window or a sample for doing what is intended .

Computer devices:

Millions of people those days have computers . Schools and Universities have hundreds of these devices . This thing made a revolution in making and introducing these devices and also in programs and Operating Systems .

1- MS-DOS System. 2- Windows System. 3- Unix System. 4- Linux System. The simplest of these system is the MS-DOS (Disk Operating System).It is used in the PC devices. Windows System starts to take place of MS-DOS regarding to the use of the illustration and the use of the Mouse instead of the Key board . Unix is more powerful than MS-DOS so it is more suitable for the main computer is which are servers for multi nets . Linux has appeared lately by a fin landi student Linus Turvalds. It became to improve it self as arrival and competitor for the dominant operating system.
